Healthcare in the United States is extremely expensive, and medical insurance is necessary to help protect international students against unforeseen events that could result in long-term financial hardship.
Florida Board of Governors regulation 6.009 mandates that international students in F-1 visa status submit proof of health insurance prior to registration. Students will receive a health insurance hold on their HCC student account and will not be allowed to register for classes or continue enrollment without complying with the insurance requirement. Proof must be submitted to the Center for International Education before registration and no later than by your scheduled I-20 program start date. Please note that there are no exceptions to this rule!
You can meet the health insurance requirement in one of two ways:
- By enrolling in the HCC-IFS health insurance plan.
- By submitting proof of alternate health insurance that is compliant with all of the Florida Board of Governors requirements.
You are required to have continuous coverage during the entire duration of your studies at HCC, including any period of authorized vacation (Summer term), even if you return to your country during the break.
