Student Loan Information

• Federal Direct Subsidized Loans - Based on financial need. Interest is paid by the government while you are enrolled at least half-time and during grace or periods of deferment.
• Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans - Not based on financial need. Interest begins accruing on these loans immediately upon disbursement.
• Federal Direct PLUS Loans (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)
• Private loans

*Note: First-time, first-year Direct Loan borrowers receive their first loan disbursement 30 calendar days after the first day of classes, according to federal regulations.

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA HCC’s school code is 007870.
2. Complete your financial aid file.
3. When you receive your award letter, accept or reject loans through Financial Aid in MyHCC Self-Service.
4. First Time Borrowers must complete Loan Entrance Counseling and the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) using their federal PIN.
5. Enroll in at least 6 credit hours within your degree program.
6. Maintain satisfactory Standards of Academic Progress.

All loan borrowers are required to complete an Exit Counseling before leaving HCC.

Hillsborough Community College offers loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, which issues loans directly from the federal government. Hillsborough Community College will submit all loan information to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), and this information will be accessible by guaranty agencies, lenders, and schools determined to be authorized users of the data system.
