At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return rented physical course materials to the bookstore.

How does it work?

  • Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Canvas

The program does not include consumable course supplies that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits or nursing kits

How do I enroll in the program?

All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in the Hawk Book Bundle program.

I have both student and staff roles at HCC - how do I use Hawk Book Bundle?
To see your course materials and opt-out page, you must login with your @hawkmail address. If you are already logged in with your @hccfl.edu address, you will be taken to the faculty page. You must logout and login again with your @hawkmail address to use the student course material and opt-out tools.
Can I opt out of the program?

Students have the option to opt out of the Hawk Book Bundle program each semester during the opt-out window. Please refer to the academic calendars for each semester opt-out window date. By opting out, students will not receive their required materials in a convenient package and access to digital content will be removed after the opt-out window closes.  Options for purchasing course materials after opting out can be found on the bookstore website. To begin the opt-out process, please go to the Opt-Out page.

How do I change my opt-out status?

To change your opt-out status and opt into the program, please go the opt-out page or follow the instructions found in your opt-out confirmation email.

How do I purchase my course materials if I decide to opt out of the program?

Students will be responsible for purchasing their required course materials through the bookstore. On the bookstore website, you can search for the courses for the term for which you have opted out.

If I am only taking courses in a shorter part of term (Flexible Start) and not any full term courses, can I opt-out and how?

The process for how you opt-out if you are ONLY taking Flexible Start classes depends on when you register for those classes.

If you register for the classes before or during the term's online opt-out period, then you can use the online system to opt-out.

If you have registered for a flexible start class AFTER the online opt-out window ends, you can opt-out through the end of drop/add for your earliest starting class by contacting the bookstore directly at sm8476@bncollege.com

When are my textbook rentals due back to the bookstore?

The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of final exams for the semester. Students will receive reminders ahead of the rental deadline to their email address.

Can I buy my rented textbooks?

Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase any rental textbooks at a reduced rate during the semester.

Do I need to return books if they are for a continuation course?

Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

What happens if I never verify my order?

Students will receive email notifications from the bookstore reminding them to verify their order and choose their fulfillment preference. If the student does not opt out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?

Yes, if the student does not opt out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

What if I drop a class?

If course materials have been picked up or delivered for the dropped class, those materials should be returned to the bookstore within 48 hours. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required course materials so that you have what you need.

What if I add or drop classes after I have selected a fulfillment preference?

If you change your schedule (add/drop classes), you will need to re-visit the selection portal to select a new fulfillment preference. Please allow 6 hours after your schedule change for your personalized portal to reflect updated course materials. You will also receive an email from Barnes & Noble when a new selection is required.

Can I opt out if I picked up my textbooks?

Yes, you will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If you do not return the textbooks, the charges for the bundle will remain on your student account and you will be subject to a replacement and non-return processing fee.

Payment
How do I pay for my textbook rentals under this program?

The course materials charge for Hawk Book Bundle is added to your student account with tuition and other required fees. Financial aid may be used to cover some or all the program costs.

If I receive Financial Aid, can it pay for my Hawk Book Bundle Course Materials costs?

Yes, financial aid is first applied toward all charges on your HCC student account bill, including fees for Hawk Book Bundle. If your financial aid exceeds your HCC billing charges, you will be eligible for a refund.

Students who receive Veterans Educational Benefits should consult with the staff at Veteran Student Affairs to discuss how the Hawk Book Bundle program impacts their aid package.

What is the impact of opting out if I receive Federal Financial Aid? Can I still use aid for course materials?

Students have the option to opt-out of Hawk Book Bundle and purchase their course materials outside of the program.

Students whose authorized financial aid exceeds their tuition and fees are eligible for a book voucher to purchase materials and supplies at the HCC Bookstore. See more about the Book Charging process.

All students are encouraged to read the information regarding opt-out prior to opting out of the program. All information regarding opting out can be found in the FAQs above. If a student elects to opt-out of Hawk Book Bundle, it is their responsibility to review and confirm the title and ISBN number for all course materials purchased outside of the program. Students can find this information about their required course materials on the Bookstore webpage.

What if I have Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) classes?

Unless you decide to opt-out of Hawk Book Bundle for a particular term (see above), you will be charged $22 per credit hour for all eligible courses you are enrolled in, including those flagged as Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC). If you are registered in ZTC classes, you may want to evaluate the cost of the books you will need against the cost of the Hawk Book Bundle to determine if you would like to opt-out for the term. If you decide to opt-out, it is your responsibility to purchase course materials for all classes on your schedule that are not Zero Textbook Cost. Options for purchasing course materials after opting out can be found on the bookstore website.

The replacement fee is 75% of the new book price at the time of purchase and the non-return processing fee is 7.5% of the new book price at the time of purchase.
