PURPOSE

This procedure outlines an annual self-evaluation process of the Board of Trustees.

PROCEDURE

The Board of Trustees will conduct an annual self-evaluation that complies with the Principles of Accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools, Commission on Colleges; ensures that the Board and each individual trustee execute their fiduciary and policy making responsibility; supports achievement of the college strategic plan as adopted by the Board; and leads to the identification of Board strengths, areas to improve, and priorities for the upcoming year.

The process begins with administration of a self-evaluation survey each spring to members of the Board of Trustees. Survey results are summarized and reported by the Division of Strategic Planning & Analysis in advance of discussion with the Board. The purpose of the discussion is to review the survey results; identify Board strengths; areas for improvement; achievement of priorities of the previous year; and establishment of priorities for the upcoming year in concert with the College President and in alignment with the strategic plan. Achievement of the priorities form an essential basis upon which results are used for improvement in the subsequent year. The following timeline details the process.
