PURPOSE

This rule establishes policy concerning background checks and drug screening for students at Hillsborough Community College (HCC).

RULE

Students enrolled in certain programs or courses at HCC that may include interaction with children, the elderly, patients, or as required by a program clinical affiliate or internship site, will be required to successfully complete a drug screening and criminal background check as part of the admissions process into these programs or courses.

The College President will develop and maintain a procedure regarding background checks and drug screening for students at HCC. The procedure shall meet the requirements as established by federal and state mandates and by appropriate program accrediting agencies. These students, in the designated academic programs will also be responsible for notifying the program manager concerning any arrests or incidents that may impact their background check and/or drug check results that occur during the particular program. In addition, a student may be asked for an additional drug screening and criminal background check by a clinical affiliate and/or HCC at the time of placement at the clinical facility.
