PURPOSE

This rule establishes policy regarding the financial aid deferment of matriculation and tuition fees at Hillsborough Community College.

RULE

The College President or his/her designee is authorized to defer the payment of a student's matriculation and tuition fees when federal, state and/or institutional financial aid, other than veteran's benefits, is delayed in being transmitted to the student through circumstances beyond his/her control. Matriculation and tuition fees may be deferred up to sixty (60) days, but not beyond ten (10) days before the end of the term. Failure by the student to make a timely application for federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid will not be considered a reason for granting a deferral of registration fees. Failure to supply necessary financial aid documentation by the student to complete his/her file in a timely manner will void a deferment. A list of the students for whom fees are deferred and the amount of fees deferred will be maintained by the Financial Services Department.

All deferred fees will be entered into the student's permanent record. The College will take the necessary and appropriate measures to collect all deferred matriculation and tuition fees. The President or his/her designee is authorized to withhold the grades and academic transcripts of any student who receives a deferment of matriculation and tuition fees until the amount of the deferred fees has been paid either by financial aid award or direct payment.
