Q: What is the acceptance process?
A: Currently applicants are admitted into the CT Program on a first qualified, first served basis according to clinical availability. Beginning in 2022, applicants will be ranked based on cumulative GPA and admitted according to clinical availability.
Q: When does the program start?
A: A new cohort begins in the fall term each year and ends in the spring. There are no CT classes or clinical offered over the summer.
Q: When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is June 15 of each year.
Q: I am currently enrolled in a program and will not graduate until July. Can I apply for the program before I graduate?
A: If a prospective applicant is enrolled in an imaging program with the expectation of completion and board certification prior to the start of the CT program, the student must provide proof of good-standing in said program and express intent to comply with board certification AND Florida Licensure before the start of the CT program. The student that is unable to provide proof of National Certification by the ARRT or NMTCB AND proof of application for Florida licensure at or before the start of classes will be forfeiting his/her seat in the computed tomography program. In this instance, the applicant may reapply for the following year once program eligibility has been met.
Q: Who should I contact if I have any questions concerning my application?
A: For any questions regarding your application, please contact healthsciences@hccfl.edu
Q: Can I take the courses at night?
A: The computed tomography program is designed to meet the needs of working technologists. Our classes will meet in the evenings. There are also opportunities to complete your clinical hours during the evenings or on the weekends. We will work with you to find a clinical location with hours that work for your schedule. However, this is done on a first qualified, first served basis and may not be feasible in every situation.
Q: When I complete this program, what will this certificate allow me to do?
A: Upon completion of the program you will be eligible to complete the Advanced Certification Examination offered by the ARRT for computed tomography and/or the NMTCB specialty exam in computed tomography. If you pass either exam, you will then be qualified to operate any CT scanner. You will also be eligible for the FL state licensure in computed tomography.
Q: Who is eligible for this program?
A: Any nationally AND state certified technologist in the following imaging modalities:
Radiography
Radiation Therapy
Nuclear Medicine
National certification by the ARRT or the NMTCB in any of the above modalities is accepted
