The medical biller certificate teaches you how to process insurance forms, assign basic medical codes, and operate databases and medical billing computer software.
Coursework focuses on medical terminology and anatomy, basic ICD-10 and CPT coding, Medicare, and other government, private, self-insurance, and managed care plans. Prepare to work in hospitals, physicians’ offices, healthcare facilities, and billing departments of medical facilities, or to set up a private billing service.
Career options include medical billing specialist, reimbursement specialist, insurance claim analyst and claims examiner—with many work-from-home opportunities.
HCC’s Medical Coder and Medical Office Billing programs (CCC.MEDCODE, CCC.OA.MED.BIL) are designed to prepare students for the AAPC Medical Billing and AAPC Medical Coding Certification. This is a national certification, academic requirements for this industry certification in other states may vary based on organization and/or employer. HCC has not yet determined the status of the industry and/or employer requirements in all states.
