The Advanced Welding Technology program is designed for individuals who possess experience in the welding industry or who have previously completed a Florida-certified Welding Technology program. Potential students are required to complete both a welding knowledge and practical test prior to admission, ensuring they possess the skills necessary for success.
The Advanced Welding program is intended to teach pipe welding, pipe fitting and emerging technologies. Students will dive deeper into the understanding of welding symbols and blueprint reading, while learning to standard and heavy wall pipe in several positions using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) techniques. Students will also learn how to create open-root V grooves, understand properties of carbon steel and stainless steel, as well as how to successfully weld multiple metal types together.
Graduates earn a Florida Department of Education approved certificate, as well as have the opportunity to earn multiple American Welding Society (AWS) certifications while enrolled in the program. All books and shirts are included. Students must utilize their own safety and welding gear, but the program will provide consumables used for class.
