Satisfactory Academic Progress

Students applying for and those receiving Federal, State and HCC financial aid are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward their degree.

Students must meet ALL of the following minimum standards:

Maintain a cumulative 2.00 Grade Point Average (GPA) each semester, and
Complete 67% of your credit hours attempted, and
Complete your degree within the 150% timeframe (i.e. an associate degree of 60 credit hours must be completed within 90 credit hours)

If your cumulative GPA drops below a 2.0 after your second consecutive semester

If you do not have an overall completion rate of 67% or more

If you do not have an overall completion rate of 67% or more after your second consecutive semester

How does this affect my Financial Aid Status?

Suspended - You are not eligible for financial aid

What are my options?

Raise your completion rate to 67% or higher to become eligible for financial aid or you can appeal if you have extenuating circumstances. Documents to support extenuating circumstances are required (See Reinstating Financial Aid)

If you attempt over 150% of your program of study

How does this affect my Financial Aid Status?

What are my options?

You can appeal if you have extenuating circumstances. Documents to support extenuating circumstances are required (See Reinstating Financial Aid). If your appeal is approved you will need to successfully complete 100% of all classes and maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
