Originally known as the Campus Security Act, the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 USC § 1092(f)) is the landmark federal law that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses. The law is tied to an institution's participation in federal student financial aid programs, and it applies to most institutions of higher education, both public and private. The Clery Act is enforced by the United States Department of Education.

Hawk Alert Text Messaging System
HCC offers a free text messaging service for students, faculty and staff to receive notifications about college alerts, emergencies and closings. Voice alerts may be used in certain circumstances.
Emergency Notification
In the event of a confirmed emergency involving an imminent threat on any HCC property, a supervisor in the Department of Public Safety will immediately notify the director of Marketing and Public Relations, who shall immediately implement the appropriate components of HCC’s mass notification system. This includes HCC email, Emergency BlueLight loudspeakers (controlled by the Office of Information Technology) Hawk Alert notifications (which consists of voice and text messages), HCC social media, Blackboard Connect, HawkNet, and/or posting of messages on billboards and on the HCC website.
The message will notify the affected campus community of the emergency in an effort to mitigate the effects of the emergency. The content of the notification will be determined by a Public Safety Supervisor, a member of the Emergency Management Team or the Director of Marketing and Public Relations. These messages are transmitted only during emergencies and are an additional real-time avenue of communication.
Emergency messages will be issued without delay unless in the judgment of the Public Safety Supervisor, it will compromise the efforts to assist victims or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate an emergency. Emergency notifications often address health and safety emergencies and may be limited to the population believed to be affected by the emergency. Possible emergency situations include, but are not limited to, severe weather such as hurricane or tornado, a fire or chemical spill on or near campus, bomb threats on campus, or shooters or terrorist attacks on campus.
Timely Warnings
HCC issues timely warnings to each campus community about Clery-related crimes that are reported to its Department of Public Safety or local law enforcement agencies posing an ongoing threat to the HCC community.
Sex Offenders
Information on registered sex offenders may be obtained from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
