College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program. More than 2,900 accredited institutions of higher education award credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams, which assess what you know.

Taking CLEP exams can shorten the time it takes to earn your degree, allow you to place out of general introductory courses, and even satisfy a proficiency requirement by demonstrating that you've already mastered the content. CLEP exams can reduce the number of courses you need to graduate, saving hundreds of dollars in tuition

How do I register for the CLEP?

CLEP testing is available to the public. Area residents may pick up information for the test at any HCC campus Test Center. The CLEP fee is $95.00 (per test). This fee is no longer collected at the Bursar’s office. Please go to the CLEP website to register and pay for a specific CLEP exam. There is also a $20.00 Test Center Fee (per test) payable to HCC at the Cashier's Office.

Please review the following CLEP exam eligibility requirements:

Students must not be currently enrolled in the course for which they would like to take the CLEP exam.
Students who have completed a course and earned a grade of "D" or "F" are eligible for CLEP credit in a subsequent semester.
Students who have withdrawn or dropped a course are eligible for CLEP credit the following semester.

How do I arrange CLEP testing accommodations?

If you need testing accommodations, please consult the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. Afterwards, contact the testing center to arrange your accommodations. We recommend you do this at least one week ahead of your scheduled testing date and that you do not register and pay for your CLEP exam until completed.
