HawkGPS

1. Login to the MyHCC Portal. 
2. Select 'Register for Classes in HawkGPS' under the Admissions & Registration menu.

From your dashboard, select ‘Open my plan’. If you have recently updated your degree program, you may see an option to ‘Build a declared plan’. Selecting this option will make sure your plan reflects your currently declared program. 

• Optimize your Plan - Your plan will likely show a ‘Please Optimize’ status. Select the ‘Optimize’ button to refresh your plan to make sure it is up to date with any placement test scores or other updates that have occurred on your record. 
• Set target credits - Set the amount of credits you plan to take each term (12 credits is full time). 
• Update campus preference - select ‘Campuses’ below the calendar if you want to only take classes at certain campuses. If you want to take online classes, you should leave this with all campuses selected for broadest availability. 
• Block time - block days/times on the calendar view so the planner will recommend classes that fit your needs. 

After making updates ‘Optimize’ again and your recommended classes will update per your preferences. 

Any time changes or updates are made to your plan, HawkGPS will need to review those changes against your current academic records and degree requirements. To verify your changes are acceptable for graduation, click the blue 'Optimize' button. HawkGPS will provide a message to let you know if your plan has been approved, if there are required changes for graduation, or if it has recommendations to shorten your time to degree or reduce cost.

Please Note: If you attempt to register with a plan that is not optimized, you will be prompted to do so before registering for classes. You can elect to ‘Ignore and Continue Registration’ if you do not want to make the recommended changes.

Yes! You can create a plan, customize your schedule, and register for classes within HawkGPS. For terms registration is open for, the blue 'Register' button will display below your list of classes.

To register, select the ‘Change’ button next to EACH class you want to register for and select ‘Mark to Register’. Then click the blue ‘Register’ button. 

Please Note:  You must confirm your physical address each term prior to registration. To confirm your address click your username in MyHCC then select 'Profile and Address Updates.' If you do not do this prior to registration, you will get an error message that will direct you to MyHCC to confirm your address. You can then return to HawkGPS to complete your registration. 

Please note: Dual Enrollment students cannot register for classes in HawkGPS. Please see our Dual Enrollment webpage for instructions on how submit your paperwork and register for classes. 

From the schedule view, click ‘Change’ and select ‘Mark to Drop’, then select ‘Update Registration'. If you are dropping a class and adding another, you can use the 'Swap with...' to drop and add in a single step.

The system may try to replace the section you are dropping or withdrawing from with another that is still open for registration. It does this in order to meet your preferences for how many credits you want to take per semester and help you graduate on time. However, this may not be what you want, especially if you are withdrawing late in the semester.

To override the suggestion to add a new section, select the option to 'Ignore and continue registration'. 

If you are in a degree program, HawkGPS will recommend class sections to register for based on your preferences. If you are not pursuing a degree, or would just like to browse the complete schedule, you can search by class, instructor, campus, or type of class. 

• Select ‘Add a Course’. From here, you can update the filters for things like Flexible start, Campus, Class type (i.e. online or on-campus), or type a course name, title, or instructor into the search bar.  
• A list of courses will display. Click a course to expand the class sections that are available. Sections you are eligible to register for will show ‘Available’. Click to view section details for section descriptions and dates and times. To add to you plan, select the '+Select' button, then 'Save Changes'.

You must confirm your physical address every term. If you have not done so prior to attempting to register, you will receive a ‘Registration failed’ message, with a link to ‘Profile and Address Updates’ in your MyHCC portal. Follow the link, or go directly to MyHCC, click your name and select ‘Profile and Address Updates’ to review and confirm your address. Once complete, return to HawkGPS and submit your registration again. 

If your receive an error trying to register, the system should give you a message with steps to resolve your issue. In most cases, this will refer you to the Student Services office that can help you. In general, your best resource is always an Academic Advisor! 

If you receive an error from the plan and you are unsure how to proceed, you can chat with technical support within HawkGPS. You can also click the ‘Help’ button to send a feedback response. 

To perform a 'What-if' analysis for a different program, click 'Change' under the Goal tab to see a list of other programs to explore. HawkGPS will recalculate a plan based on that program’s degree requirements. Before building a 'What-If' plan, you will be asked if you want to save your current plan. Select ‘Yes’ to make sure you can go back to your declared plan later. You can access saved plans from your dashboard or the ‘Timeline’ button. 

Changing your goal in HawkGPS does not officially change your program with the college. If you register for classes from a 'What-if' plan, you might take classes that are not required for your degree or that financial aid will not cover. To officially change your program, you should meet with an Academic Advisor. You can submit a 'Program Change Request' form via Student Forms in MyHCC. Once HCC changes your program, you will need to build a declared plan from your dashboard, or use the 'Reset to declared plan' option in the Goals tab. This will ensure that you are following your most up-to-date plan in HawkGPS.

If you officially change your degree program with your Academic Advisor or submit the Program Change Request form, HawkGPS will show your old plan by default, but it will show gray and with an ND or Not Declared status. To build a new plan for your updated program, select either ‘Build a Declared Plan’ from the Dashboard, or ‘Reset to declared Plan’ in the Goals tab of your plan. 

Dual Enrollment students can use HawkGPS to view an academic path to completion of the Associate in Arts degree, but cannot register for classes in HawkGPS. Please see our Dual Enrollment webpage for instructions on how submit your paperwork and register for classes. 

All changes made by a student or advisor are automatically saved to the current plan. A list of previously saved plans will be available to open from your dashboard, or via the ‘Timeline’ button on the plan. To be sure you can go back to a plan later, you must use the 'Save' option.

Plans created with an Academic Advisor will be marked 'Official' to indicate that the plan was advisor-approved.

Please note: If you go back to a previously saved plan, you will be defaulted to 'View Only' mode. Click the ‘Edit’ button to make changes or register from this plan. Once you do this, it will become your current plan.

While in your plan, select the ‘Download’ option at the top right-hand side of the page. If you have a plan that has been reviewed by an Advisor, make sure to open that Official plan upon login. 

Please Note: the Download option will only be available once you 'Optimize' your plan.

Yes, you can move courses around in your plan by dragging and dropping. To verify that your plan is valid, click the blue 'Optimize' button. If your changes are not valid, HawkGPS will suggest updates to ensure you meet pre-requisite and degree requirements, and are able to graduate on time. 

HawkGPS will recommend sections based on your program and the preferences you select. To select a section with a different instructor or offered at a different time, select 'Change' and then 'Change section for'. You will see a new list of instructors and times you can select from. Search for instructors in the search, or add filters for campus, class type, etc. You can also allow HawkGPS to recommend new days and times for sections by blocking time you are unavailable to take classes on the schedule grid, or adjusting the slider for the number of classes you want to take on-campus vs. online.

Yes, click on the number hyperlink at the top of each term column to adjust the amount of credits you want for that semester. After changes are made, select the 'Optimize' button to have HawkGPS update your plan based on your preference. 

In the schedule view, select the campus list and update to leave only the campuses you want to take classes at. Use the 'Deselect all' button to make this easier. Your schedule will adjust accordingly after you 'Optimize'. To save this preference for every term, select 'Make default'.

If you want to take online classes, you may want to leave all campuses selected to expand your online options, since you can take online classes offered by any HCC campus.

In the schedule view, use the slider to adjust how many on-campus or online classes you want to plan for the term. Your schedule will adjust accordingly after you 'Optimize'. Remember, if you want to open up the largest selection of online classes, make sure to select all main campuses in the campus selection.

Please note: Two online class formats are available, those with live online class meetings via video conference, or those without scheduled meetings. Classes with live online meetings will show dates and times in the schedule grid, and be tagged 'Live Online'.

A valid HawkGPS plan will get you to the completion of your degree or certificate at HCC. If you are pursuing an Associate in Arts pathway with the goal of transferring to a university, you should contact the school you are interested in to verify pre-requisite requirements for the major you want to pursue. Most STEM field degrees like biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, math, statistics, and business require pre-requisites before being accepted into that major, and these can vary by school.
